Jed finished his Sophomore season with incredible success. Completing the season with an undefeated 50-0 record. Jed has taken down every wrestler he has crossed this year, while only being taken down four times. When given choice, Jed will pick bottom position at almost every opportunity. This year if he did not pin or tech first, he chose bottom position with every opponent. Successfully he escaped or reversed everyone, usually within the first 15 seconds of the round! Of the 50 opponents this season, none have been able to expose Jed to his back, while Jed has successfully turned EVERY wrestler to his back, resulting in points or pin!

PROFILE

The primary secret to Jed's success is his very tough work ethic.  Jed takes every wrestling workout as serious as his wrestling matches.  He is just as concerned about losing a match in practice as he is a tournament or dual.  It would be hard to find a wrestler that will give as much to a practice.  Jed is not against, and has had his share of a second "home practice" after his day is done in the high school practice room.  As tired as he may be, he will accept the challenge.  He may need a half hour rest with a large glass of orange juice, but then he will give the same effort, not willing to let anyone get the best of him.  Then there is the obvious rule, that you will become the product of your environment.  Jed shares practice with some of the best high school wrestlers in the state.  Multiple state champions in the immediate weight below and above his, he has quality workout partners.

The second secret to his success is having a mental break in the off-season.  The resting point has been crucial for mental and physical recovery.  Jed will typically start personal training at the beginning of october and typically end his season after the first week of April.  The resting period seems to work as a recharge and motivator.  When spring turns to summer and summer changes to fall, Jed becomes restless and eager to start heavy training as he senses the upcoming season.  Six months ON and six months OFF have kept wrestling from becoming mundane and encouraged the 'Hit it Hard' style that Jed is known for.

Jed did not start as early as most accomplished wrestlers.  He started wrestling when he was 8 years old.  We did not get too serious about needing to train or know all that he would learn in the upcoming years. Wrestling began for Jed as fun and it was important for him to let it become serious as he became mentally ready for the challenge.  The first year of Jr high was a tough year for him and he felt his share of losses.  The losses became his motivation to become serious and train to become good as he wanted to be.  The tempering over the years appears to be of good timing and placed the learning curve in his later years.  Jed's enthusiasm increases with each upcoming year.  His dedication continues to grow with wins and losses.  His success is not coincidence, nor can be cast off as a "lucky" season.  He will continue to impress as his learning curve is on a steady uphill climb.

His style of wrestling encourages future growth. His moves and finishing of take downs has room to be perfected.  The training to this point has been kept simple, very aggressive!  Stance has been the foundation of his wrestling style, but never forgetting that there are three primary positions in wrestling.  On your feet, bottom and top positions, in that order.  A takedown comes first and establishes the beginning of a winning match.  The bottom position should put you in the advantage, it provides the most certain opportunity to earn a point.  The top position equally important to perfect, provides the foundation for nearfall points.  Jed is very successful in all three aspects.

On his feet, Jed is comfortable in a very low stance. He can spend an entire match on his feet without feeling leg fatigue.  He has developed many shots and is equally skilled with all.  His offensive attack is balanced with defense and rarely finds himself out of position. Takedowns are his strongest feature.  His ability to feel out an opponent and find his way in to a leg is uncanny, but no surprise due to the practice he puts in.  When given choice, Jed will confidently choose bottom position 99.9 percent of the time, and he will escape 100 percent of that time.  He can escape at will, but will take a little time on occasion to check an opportunity for a reversal.  Top position, Jed has been quoted as a "python" squeezing the life out of his opponent.  Jed has turned every seasonal opponant to his back.  He has many methods and is very good at catching them during an escape attempt.  His favorite is the "tilt" and he can work it from either side.  His leg riding is not bad either.  If an opponent finds himself fortunate enough to escape, he finds himself back in the frustrating position, of on his feet with Jed once again.
